Guides / Text multiple people individually from a Mac

How to text multiple people individually from your Mac

If your Mac has Messages signed in to your Apple ID, it can already send texts from your phone number. It just will not send one message to a list as separate texts. Here is how to get it to.

First: make sure your Mac can text everyone

  1. Open Messages on your Mac and sign in with the same Apple ID as your iPhone.
  2. To reach Android phones too, turn on Text Message Forwarding on your iPhone: open Settings, then Messages (on newer iPhones: Settings, Apps, Messages), then Text Message Forwarding, and switch on your Mac.
  3. Send yourself a test text from the Mac.

Now your Mac sends blue iMessages to iPhones and, through your iPhone, green texts to Android phones. All from your number.

The free way: Shortcuts on the Mac

Shortcuts comes with macOS 12 and newer.

  1. Open Shortcuts and click the plus button.
  2. Add a Contacts action and choose your people.
  3. Add Repeat with Each.
  4. Inside it, add Send Message, set the recipient to "Repeat Item," and write your message.
  5. Run it.

Good for a short, fixed list. Harder when the list changes every week, when you want each person's name in the text, or when you need to know who did not get it.

The faster way: Bullhorn Text

Bullhorn Text is a Mac app that drives Messages for you:

Your list stays on your Mac, encrypted. No account, no cloud.

Common questions

Can a Mac send SMS to Android phones?

Yes, if you have an iPhone with Text Message Forwarding turned on for your Mac. The iPhone passes those texts along as regular green texts.

How many texts can I send from my Mac in a day?

Apple does not publish a number, and it can pause accounts that send heavily. Around 200 texts a day to people who know you is a safe ceiling.

Does this work on Windows?

No. Messages is a Mac app, so these methods need a Mac.
